The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) signed a cooperation agreement with the Association of Korean Oriental Medicine (AKOM) in a ceremony in Seoul, Korea on Oct. 18, 2011. The agreement was inked between WTF President Chungwon Choue and Mr. Jeong-gon Kim, president of the AKOM, at the association’s conference room. The main objective of the pact is to help further globalize taekwondo and Korean oriental medicine as the nation’s representative brands. Taekwondo was originated in Korea as a martial art and it became an Olympic sport in 2000. Under the pact, the two organizations agreed to fully cooperate for the promotion of taekwondo and Korean oriental medicine by sending Korean herbal doctors to major taekwondo competitions promoted by the WTF for free medical services for participating athletes. “The agreement will bring a synergetic effects to the further promotion of taekwondo and Korean oriental medicine,” said WTF President Choue. On Oct. 10, there was a 20-minute taekwondo performance by the WTF Taekwondo Demonstration Team during a ceremony to mark the 6th Korean Oriental Medicine Day at the AKOM building, drawing big applause from the ceremony participants.
