Australia has held a WTF international kyorugi referee seminar and an international referee refresher course in a great success, according to the organizers. The WTF-promoted 67th International Kyorugi Referee Seminar and the 80th International Kyorugi Referee Refresher Course were held at the Radisson Resort Hotel in Gold Coast, Australia, on Sept. 13-16, drawing a total of 54 referees from 13 countries. The Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) organized the international referee events and Mr. Chakir Chelbat, chairman of the WTF Referee Committee, served as the referee instructor. It marked the first time in five years that Australia has hosted a WTF international referee event. The 49th International Kyorugi Referee Seminar was held in Sydney, Australia in Jan. 17-19, 2006. The Gold Coast international referee seminar and refresher course was followed by the inaugural two-day Australian Open. According to Mr. Chelbat, “This is one of the best organized seminars I have had the pleasure of attending. The participants were all of a very high standard and the venue and organization for this course was exceptional.” “I was impressed to see participants from all over the world travel to Australia to participate in the course and undertake their IR credentials. I was also particularly pleased to see that some of our world’s best referees who came to Australia to undertake their IR refresher and to update their training, decided to stay on for the Australian Open to officiate at this event as this shows great taekwondo spirit and friendship,” he said. Mr Chelbat went on to say, “The referees for the London 2012 Olympic Games have not yet been determined, but I am very confident there will be a number of referees from the Oceania region selected for 2012. My sincere thanks to the STA for organizing such a magnificent week of tekwondo and for staging a wonderful Australian Open with such a variety of countries participating at this inaugural championship. I am very much looking forward to coming back to the Australian Open in 2012.” provided wtf
