지난 3월 7일 서울 동대문구 장안동 국제라이온스협회 354-C지구 본부 대강당에서는 김태옥 회장이 ‘몽골 사랑의 안경 전달식’을 통해 3억원 상당을 페렌레이 우르진훈데브 주한 몽골 대사에게 기증해 언론의 집중 조명을 받았다. 이날 행사에서 안경을 기증한 김태옥 회장은 (주)한국옵티그마를 경영하는 CEO로서 ‘봉사하는 경영인’으로 정평이 나 있다. 실제로 국제라이온스협회에서 3년 연속 세계최고봉사상을 수상할 정도로 김 회장은 봉사와 이윤을 사회에 환원함으로써 많은 사람들로부터 존경을 받고 있다.김 회장이 이러한 봉사와 이익환원을 실천하고 있는 중심에는 그가 어릴 적부터 수련한 태권도 정신이 밑거름이 됐다.

Dr. Kim Tae-Ok was in the news as he donated eyeglasses worth 3 hundred thousands won to Mr. Perenlei Urjinlkhundev, the ambassador of Mongol to Seoul on the occasion of the eyeglasses donation event held at main hall of Internaitonal Lions Club, Jangan-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul on March 7. President of Optigma Korea Company Ltd, known as "Serving businessman", has been respected by people as he has given back his properties to society. In fact, he was awarded "World best dedication prize" given by International Lions Club for the 3rd consecutive years.There was Taekwondo, which he began training since he was a kid, behind he dedication mind.

성공한 기업가보다 존경받는 기업가로“지금 회사를 일구고 경영하는데 있어 태권도 수련을 통해 얻은 불굴의 정신과 봉사 정신이 나를 성공한 기업인으로 이끌어 주었다.”김 회장은 자신의 인생에서 가장 중요한 목표와 삶의 방식을 가르쳐 준 것은 태권도라고 주저 없이 말했다.

김 회장은 지난 2005년 5월 27일 국기원 엄운규 원장으로부터 태권도 보급과 발전은 물론 태권도 문화 창달에 기여한 공로로 표창장을 받기도 했다. 엄운규 원장은 스승이기도 하지만 평소 김 회장이 가장 존경하는 태권도인이기도 하다. 김 회장이 처음 태권도를 시작한 것은 초등학교 3학년 때. 이후 국가대표 선수로 선발될 정도로 빼어난 태권도 실력을 자랑했다. 해병대에 복무중인 1967년에는 훈련소 태권도 사범으로도 활약할 정도로 태권도에 대한 그의 열정은 대단했다는 평가다.

A Kukkiwon citation winner began Taekwondo at the 3rd degree of elementary school, and displayed high techniques to the level of national team. He served as a Taekwondo instructor while he was a member of the Marine Corps in1967.

김 회장은 1972년 5단 승단을 한 후 국제심판, 사범 자격증을 획득할 정도로 모범적이고 존경받는 태권도인의 삶을 살았다. 도장을 직접 운영하며 해병대 제대 후에는 대구 종로, 수창 초등학교 등에서 지도사범으로서 지도자로서의 뛰어난 역량을 발휘했다. 종로, 수창초등학교 사범 시절에는 4학년 이상 전교생의 태권도 수련을 교과목에 정규수업으로 채택되게 하는 등 큰 역할을 했으며, 대구에서 월배도장과 서부도장을 직접 운영하기도 했다.

대구 종로, 수창초등학교 지도사범 시절에는 대구 KBS에 출연해 태권도 시범을 선보일 정도로 태권도 발전에 혁혁한 공헌을 한 김 회장이 키워낸 유단자만도 300여명에 이르고 있다.

그 중에서도 전국 및 소년체전 경북대표를 배출할 정도로 지도자로서 탁월한 능력을 보여준 김 회장은 1973년 현재 미국에서 태권도인으로서 성공한 권영문 사범을 통해 미국 육군사관학교 사범으로 초청을 받기도 했다. 그만큼 김 회장의 태권도 실력과 지도자로서의 능력을 인정받았기 때문이다

.Dr. Kim was promoted to 5 dan in 1972 and also gained qualifications in an international referee and a Taekwondo instructor. Since he left the Marine Corps, he ran a Taekwondo school and also taught Taekwondo at Jongro elementary school and Suchang elementary school in Daegu. While he was a head instructor of Suchang elementary school and Jongro elementary school, he played a major role in adapting Taekwondo training in the regular curriculum. He continued his career in running Taekwondo gyms such as Weolbae-dojang and Seobu-dojang in Daegu.The teacher of more than 300 disciples once appeared on KBS Daegu and displayed Taekwondo demonstration performance.The former excellent Taekwondo instructor producing number of Gyeongbuk provincial Taekwondo team representatives was invited as a Taekwondo instructor to the U.S. Military Academy by one of the most successful Taekwondo master, Mr. Kwon Young-Mun in 1973. It shows the great extent of his Taekwondo ability in teaching.

봉사정신은 곧 태권도 정신그러나 김 회장은 미 육사의 초청을 마다하고 1974년 태권도계를 떠나 사업가의 길로 들어서게 된다. 그는 경원대학교 행정학과에서 행정학박사 학위를 받게 되었고, 현재에도 매년 대학의 최고경영자과정을 이수하는 등 책을 손에서 놓는 일이 없다.

김 회장은 “사업을 본격적으로 시작하면서 어려울 때마다 태권도 정신으로 사업에 열성을 다했다”고 당시를 회상했다. ‘태권도 정신’은 바로 김 회장의 유일한 버팀목이었다는 것이다.

어릴 적 동네 정자나무에 호야불을 켜놓고 맨발로 태권도 수련을 하면서도 즐겁게 했던 시절을 떠올리면서 어려운 고비 고비를 이겨냈다는 것이다. 지금은 초등학교 유단자가 많지만, 그 당시는 그가 승단시험의 유일한 합격자이기도 했을 때였다. 이와 같은 각오와 정신으로 노력
